The passing of the traditional Shad Derby Hat & Walking Stick at the Shad Derby Gala from last year's Chairperson to the current year's Chairperson represents the passing of the responsibility, supervision & management of the Shad Derby Festival and it's schedule of events annually. Inside the Derby hat are inscribed the names of each Shad Derby Chairperson to have ever Chaired the Shad Derby over the years. The Derby Hat & Cane are most recognized and visible with the Chairpersons during the Shad Derby Day Parade & Festivities culmination on the third Saturday in May.
